Well Done AP

Who would have thought the AP could produce such a moving, theologically solid piece of work? Here is a great article on Matt Chandler and his ongoing fight against brain cancer. It is very solid. I would like to shake Eric Gorskis' hand. Thanks Matt for suffering so well.

A Sweet and Bitter Providence

From A Sweet and Bitter Providence:

Life is not a straight line leading from one blessing to the next and then finally to heaven. Life is a winding and troubled road. Switchback after switchback. And the point of biblical stories like Joseph and Job and Esther and Ruth is to help us feel in our bones (not just know in our heads) that God is for us in all these strange turns. God is not just showing up after the trouble and cleaning it up. He is plotting the course and managing the troubles with far-reaching purposes for our good and for the glory of Jesus Christ.

It's a boy!

Profile with arms up

Today was our 20 week ultrasound and it was awesome. My mom was able to come down and go with us which made it even more special to share that moment with her. Seeing the images and different views of the baby on screen were really neat. Hard to believe they can see so much with that little machine. We were able to view the brain, spine, arms and legs, a full bladder, face with a little mouth that opened and closed and his arms were bent up in front of his face. So much has changed since the original ultrasound where he was about the size of a bean! Now he's about 13 oz. and is sizing up at 13.6cm from head to rump. We couldn't be happier that it's a boy! Truly a dream come true. And just knowing that everything looks normal and healthy is an added relief. Best. Day. Ever.

EverythingCrane

When Leslie started this blog back in 2005 it was initially just meant to keep our family updated on our lives as newlyweds while we lived in Korea. After coming back we were encouraged to keep it going. We named it tlc0805 because of our initials and our wedding anniversary. We have found this URL to be a bit problematic for people to remember. It doesn't roll off the tongue with much grace and people tend to forget the numbers. So, we are changing the name. It will henceforth be known as everythingcrane.blogspot.com. If you follow us in Google reader you will need to update the URL, the archives should all stay the same but tlc0805 will cease to exist. Any links to the old address will also need to be changed so if you want to keep following us please update your bookmarks. Thanks for reading.

Crafty

Most people that know me well know I'm pretty crafty. Well my grandma Houser taught me to crochet when I was about 6 years old and somehow I've never lost that knowledge! Anyways I love looking at craft blogs of other ladies that make cool things. The other day I ran across a post with this bright granny square quilt.

That really inspired me to pick up my crochet needles again and see what I could do. I went out and bought some bright yarns, looked up some tutorials online and got started. Here's what I have done so far...

I'll have to make a LOT of squares to make that blanket but I think it'll look really nice if I can accomplish it! I was pretty proud of myself for being able to follow a pattern for the first time. Usually I only go back and forth thus producing scarves and maybe a hat or two. If you're interested in downloading the pattern for the blanket you can find it here. There's also a Flickr set of other people's blankets here. It's so much fun looking at people's color combinations!

Also, I scored big time tonight thanks to Craigslist. I got a whole box of maternity clothes from a nice lady in Cary who happened to be my size and height, for only $36! Now I'll finally be able to wear some pants that actually fit. :)

Growing...

The baby is now clocking in at 17 weeks or right at 4 1/2 months. I'm finally starting to get a little bump and I think I've felt him/her move a few times. My appetite is starting to increase more and more...I'm not used to eating this much or often! Thomas just laughs at me. I've gained about 10 lbs. so far which isn't too bad I guess. None of my pants will button anymore so I have to wear a BellaBand to keep wearing them which helps to cover the unzipped part and keep them up. Pretty nifty invention! I've also gotten some maternity tops and jeans from Kohls, who has great deals on maternity clothes btw. So the next big milestone is the second trimester ultrasound, otherwise known as the one where you find out the sex! We'll be heading to that on January 18 and I couldn't be more excited. I hope the little bugger cooperates so we can see the goods. I look forward to knowing the sex so I can do more as far as thinking about the nursery and stuff to register for etc.

We had a great Christmas with the fam in Cherryville and got lots of great gifts like a new computer and a video camera to share the joy of our child with the in-laws overseas and everyone else who lives far away! I look forward to capturing all the great moments with it. Now it's back to work and for Thomas back to school in a few weeks. I'll make an update in a few weeks and hopefully we'll know what we're having!
