Photo Session

With Thomas's parents and siblings in for Judah's birth, Renee wanted to maximize the opportunity to have the family together by having a family photo shoot. Of course since my amazing friend Kristel, who took our maternity photos a while back, did such a great job, we decided to enlist her to take these photos for us also. She did a great job! Check out her blog Glowing Light and click here for more of the pics. Thanks Kristel!

3 weeks

Funny face

I can't believe Judah was 3 weeks old on Monday! The time is flying by. We're having a good time with David and Renee being here. Renee and I went to Cherryville for a few days last week so I could visit my grandma Houser in the hospital. Then last weekend we went to a cookout at Renee's brother Joel's house in Rocky Mount where all her family was in attendance. We keep joking around saying that Judah's met more people in his 3 weeks of life than most babies do in a year! He's definitely making the rounds. Here are a few of his latest pics.

He's so alert!

We go back to the doctor on Monday to see how much weight he's gained and if he's gotten longer. I'm excited. Latest developments with him are that he's doing well with trying to hold his head up, he's giving us a few smiles and his umbilical cord fell off. I'm loving my time off with him and definitely don't want my maternity leave to end!

Happy Due Date!

My mom

Well, today was Judah's due date. He was a week old on Monday...hard to believe! I feel like he's been in our lives for longer.

My mom left on Tuesday night. It was so sad! Having her here for the past week was a major blessing for Thomas and me as we were able to sleep while she kept watch by night. :) She was so helpful around the house and willing to do anything for us. It's interesting how your perspective on your own mom changes after you become one yourself. I look at Judah and pray nothing bad ever happens to him. Then I think about all the things I put my parents through as a teenager. I'm so sorry! I love you mom, thanks for everything. I can never tell you enough how much it means to me.

We kept joking with mom that she was spoiling Judah by holding him all night instead of letting him sleep in his crib. He's been so good with not crying very much at all and allowing us to sleep through the night. We were in for a rude awakening after she left. He cried almost all night and Thomas and I had to take him in shifts in order to get some sleep. I guess he'll get adjusted to the night at some point without grandma there to hold him!

We met Thomas' parents at the airport around 2:30 yesterday with Judah in tow. It's so great to have them here with us for the next 3 weeks. We're looking forward to hanging out and them getting to spend time with their first grandchild. Life is good.

Thomas with Grand-daddy Farris

Leslie and I have been very blessed up to this point with Judah being a great sleeper. Most likely it's just good genes :) but it could also be due to the fact that he has a really cool, very old, tried and true, little crib.

Thomas in the crib

The crib was designed and hand made by David Farris (Thomas' great grandfather, Judah's great great grandfather) in 1933 for his first child, Mary (AKA Mamere, AKA coolest great grandmother in the world). At that point grand-daddy Farris had very few tools and very little money to provide bought baby furniture. So the crib was used for his two daughters Mary and Patricia, and carried down to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Judah is the 25th descendant of grand-daddy's to sleep in the crib.

The 77 year old crib is mobile with it's unique hand hewn wheels and can be moved from one room to another easily. The crib has become a treasured item in the Farris/Crane family and we are so glad that Judah is liking it.

He's Here!

First video with our new camera

My labor started at 2am Saturday night, we went to the hospital at 2pm on Sunday afternoon because I was trying to hold off until the contractions were closer together. Because my water had already broken a little they went ahead and admitted me telling us that they thought we'd have the baby by midnight or a little later.

Judah was born at 3:42 am on Monday, May 31 which also happens to be my mom's birthday! She and my dad were there for the birth which was great to be able to share that experience with them. We kept in touch with Thomas's parents via text message pretty consistently throughout the night.

Proud Grandparents!

It was a long but wonderful experience in the end because we now have our baby that we've waited so long for! I'm glad he was born a little early since he was already 7 lbs. 9 oz! He got circumcised today poor thing and is recovering well. The hospital staff has been awesome, especially our labor and delivery nurse. We'd heard REX was the place to deliver because it's so nice and the food is good and everything we were told has been true.

Wrinkly newborn hand :)

We get to check out tomorrow and everything's looking good with me and Judah too. It all feels so surreal. He's ours...and starting tomorrow it's just us...our new family of three. Thank you Jesus for more blessings than we could ever have imagined.
