Family Weekend Part 2

Family Weekend Parks

The last few days my parents were here we explored different parts of the city and got to show them the parks that we frequent. Mom and Dad had a great time playing with Judah on the playground. It was a lot of fun to watch.

We also went down to the area called Gastown and walked around at the waterfront. We got to see the Olympic torch from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. It's the picture below on the bottom left that looks like four big icicles stacked up together. My mom bought Judah a cake pop which he thought was the coolest thing.

Family Weekend Waterfront

Here's a video of us at dinner the last day and Judah recounting our experience whale watching. You can see how big his vocabulary is getting. I love how he says whales.

I don't have to tell you how hard it was saying goodbye again, but we did it and we're still alive! Thanks to the grace of God we all made it to the airport and left without a total breakdown. I'm really close to my parents and going away and taking Judah is by far the biggest sacrifice with this move overseas. I'm thankful to God for technology and the ability to stay in touch more easily than in the past. So, no more goodbyes for now. Instead I'll just say..."Until next time!"

Happy 2nd Birthday Judah!

Judah Birthday

Judah's due date was actually two years ago on this date, June 10. How blessed we were that he decided to come 10 days early and on my mom's birthday, May 31! That made it an extra special date for my whole family. This year we celebrated Judah's first birthday away from our friends and family back home. It was bittersweet knowing that this is the first of many that we'll spend away but I wanted to be sure our family still felt like they were a part of his special day.

We started off the day with a few presents and cinnamon rolls for breakfast. We even had a group Skype call with my mom and dad while they were at work. That was a lot of fun! He would say, "Mamaaaww, Papaaawww!" Later on we got to Skype with Mamere and GG and she played the piano and sang happy birthday like she does with all the grandkids. He loved it!

Judah Birthday Party 1

We decided to have his party down at Queens Park in New Westminster which is walking distance from our house. They have a great playground area and even have a petting zoo that just opened up a few weeks ago. There are lots of picnic tables nearby so we got there early that Saturday and snagged one. We invited a lot of our new friends and everyone pitched in and brought some food or drinks to help out. We had a great time and felt blessed that so many people came to celebrate with us!

We lit candles and sang happy birthday but he doesn't quite have the blowing candles thing out yet. He did his best though.

Judah Birthday Party 2

He got a lot of fun gifts like a wiffle ball and bat, airplane, helicopter, tool belt full of tools, cars, trucks, clothes and books. He's stocked up! All the kids had a lot of fun playing on the playground and exploring the petting zoo. We still can't get him to pet a goat though – one day!

Judah Birthday Party 3

Two year stats
26.7 lbs, 15th percentile on height, 50% on head and weight
  • Talking A LOT and using lots of short sentences. He can mimic anything you say - watch out!
  • His favorites right now are: I do it!, Cuh cake (cup cake), I pay paak (I play park), Nooo stop it Maaamaaa, I pee potty, Bye bye I see you....laateeerrr, saying bye to things: bye bye pee pee (when we flush the toilet), bye bye copter (helicopter), bye air pane (air plane)
  • He loves climbing on everything, especially up the ladders and ropes at the park and going down slides. He can now run and jump and asks for help ("I help!") when he can't climb up or get down from something that's too high.
  • He remembers people even if he hasn't seen or been around them for a while. A few people have babysat for us and days or weeks later he'll say, "where's Kristen?" or "where's Aunt Joan!?" and of course he's always asking for Mamaw and Papaw
  • He loves music and dancing and often comes home singing and doing hand motions from a song he's learned at daycare
  • He also loves saying prayers and insists on saying them every night before bed. He even pretends to pray by himself and while he's praying we'll hear him going through a list of all the people he knows, praying for them. It's so cute!
  • He has also learned that Thomas and I have other names besides Mama and Dada, and he's picked up Mom, Dad, Mommy, Daddy and even the dreaded Thomas and Leslie! I was in my room with the door shut the other day and he knocked and said, "Leslie!" What are we going to do with this kid?
  • He's learned how to open and close doors, as the knobs here in our apartment are pretty low.
  • He still loves watching Sesame Street videos, especially Elmo, but now he also knows Cookie Monster and Grouch. He also knows who Thomas the train is somehow, I'm assuming from his daycare class.

Year two was amazing with Judah and just like everyone says, every stage is just the best. I still look at him and can't believe he's ours. I love him with every fiber of my being and can't imagine life without him. He's the most special thing that's ever happened to us, outside our relationship with the Lord of course. What an amazing blessing and picture of the Father's love for us. He reminds me of that every single day. Thank you Judah for being such a sweet and amazing boy. We love you!

Family Weekend Part 1

Family Weekend 1

May 25–28 was family weekend here and we were pumped to have my parents come visit us! As soon as they got here Thursday afternoon they came to see our apartment and then we walked to our favorite park. Then we went back to their hotel where we got some goodies! Mom brought me a 12 pack of Sun-Drop and Judah got some early birthday presents!

Lynn Canyon

Friday we took the Skytrain and then a bus and went to Lynn Canyon Park. It's a really nice park with a suspension bridge and lots of hiking trails. We've spent so much time in the city it was great to get out into nature and spend some time in the woods.

Lynn Canyon 2

I wasn't sure if Judah would be too scared to walk across the bridge since it swings a little, but after my dad carried him across, he was all about it. Even adults were going by and commenting at how brave he was! We were really proud of him. On the way home on the SkyTrain you can see that he caught up on the latest news around Vancouver.

Whale Watching 1

Saturday we went with some friends to go whale watching! We chose to go with the Vancouver Whale Watch tour and it was a lot of fun! I wasn't sure what to expect since I've never been whale watching but we had a great time. If you're reading this and you go do this tour, make sure you get homemade donuts at the shop underneath the Whale Watch tour office because they were amazing. I wish I'd gotten a picture!

Whale Watching 2

Our tour guide was a nice Austrian lady who was very passionate about her job and knew more about whales than anyone you could imagine. The tour group also guarantees you will see a whale on your trip or you can keep coming back for free until you do! We did get to see whales and it was really cool! Judah did amazing and had fun playing on the boat with Mamaw and Papaw and didn't get fussy at all. He amazes me.

Whale Watching 3

The weather was beautiful and it was relaxing being out on a boat all day. After we got back we walked around town a little and had dinner at a Mexican restaurant. By the end of the day Judah was worn out!
